Young Turks Advocates Strong Support For Unions Until It Is Their Company Unionizing

The Young Turks (TYT) is a progressive, left-leaning media organization.

They have bloggers, and TV shows that you can watch on Hulu and YouTube TV. They use their organization to prop up socialist ideas like Bernie Sanders and insult the strides Donald Trump has made in the economy and social reforms.

The co-creator of TYT, Cenk Uygur, has been a vocal supporter of unions. Unions are a part of the liberal agenda that his company touts as what is best for our country.

That is until his employees decide to unionize, and then he loses it. His employees announced to the world via Twitter on Feb. 12th that The Young Turks would be #UnionStrong!

A reporter from the Huffington Post has reported that Uygur lost it on his employees at their regularly scheduled all-staff meeting.

In the report, Uygur says he is a vocal supporter of Unions at big companies that don’t support profit sharing. Still, they are a small company that is not sustainable with unions.

Uygur spoke to his 65 employees, expressing outrage and sadness that this was happening to his company.

According to two employees that attended the meeting, Uygur threw papers on the ground and berated an employee who seemed to be laughing at the display of emotion. They claimed he said to the smiling employee that this wouldn’t be funny later. We can only assume that it is about Uygur’s fears that a Union would take down his company.

Uygur had this to say to the HuffPost,

“The reality is we’re in a precarious position. We’re in a digital media landscape where almost no one makes money or is sustainable. For a smaller digital media company, those are absolutely real considerations. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a union. Everyone should know the full context … If folks say they don’t believe we’re in a precarious position, OK. And that’s their decision to make.”

He claims that the meeting wasn’t created to talk to his employees about their ability to unionize but felt it was important to explain that a union does not belong at a small news network that is struggling to turn a profit. Uygur said,

“The person smiling seemed to be openly mocking the idea that the company might not survive after 18 years. And we put all this blood, sweat and tears into it. I don’t find the idea of us going down funny.”

The employees say that despite pushes and the backlash from management, unionizing is still prevalent in the office. The employees still see that the plan is to move forward with Unionizing.

One staffer said: “We love the company. We’re just getting the company to live by its principles.”

You cannot push others to support unstainable business practices if you are not willing to use those same practices within your own company.

Liberal policies are not championing the middle class. They do nothing but hurt small businesses and prop up major organizations.
