WOW. This is some brazen pandering, even by Mayor Pete standards.
According to the sourcelink, former Mayor and inexplicable contender in the Democrat primary Pete Buttigieg is trying to pretend that because he stepped foot inside a couple of food establishments in South Carolina, he “partnered” with them.
Why? Because they’re owned by black people, natch.
Pete wrote an op-ed in SC’s “The State” in which he promoted his plan for Black America (because of course he has a plan for Black America), and that plan is called the “Frederick Douglass Plan” because of COURSE it’s called that. He describes the plan as a “comprehensive investment in the empowerment of Black America” because that’s a lot of words that are strung together that don’t really mean anything, which is basically Pete’s forte.
In the op-ed, Pete says his plan “begins with entrepreneurship, and our campaign has proudly partnered with local businesses like Diane’s Kitchen in Chester, Atlantis Restaurant in Moncks Corner and the Fair Deal Grocery on Charleston’s Eastside.”
That came as a bit of a surprise to at least two of those business’ owners (Diane’s Kitchen and Atlantis Restaurant), who claimed that they didn’t partner with Pete – they just welcomed him and his campaign team as customers.
It’s like me walking into Taco Bell and ordering a coupla tacos, and then saying on the air that I have a partnership with Taco Bell.
The owner of Diane’s Kitchen, Diane Cole, said, “I stand for what I stand for and I didn’t say I had a partnership.”
Awwwwkwwwwaaaaaard.
Apparently, Pete’s team tried to persude Diane into using language that “more closely matched” what Pete said in his op-ed, but she was not down to clown.
“It sounds like you’re saying that I am your business partner. I’m only going to accept that you all stopped in while you were campaigning in South Carolina and I welcomed you all,” she responded to the campaign.
That meant Pete’s team was gonna have to explain themselves, and so they threw a bunch more words together:
“Pete has put forward the most comprehensive plan for Black America, which includes investing in the growth of Black-owned businesses and supporting Black entrepreneurs. We’re proud to live our values as a campaign by holding events and spending money at Black-owned businesses in South Carolina and across the country, something we will continue to do throughout the campaign.”
K. So for real – Pete ate at Diane’s Kitchen and now USES the fact that he spent a few bucks there to say he has a partnership with a black-owned business.
Are black people NOT offended by this? And if not, WTF? This is pandering at its most pandertastic.
There is NOTHING authentic about Mayor Pete. NOTHING.
