I mean, not to sound insensitive, but they’re not wrong…
On the other side of the crust, I don’t condone obesity.
It’s a weird middle between a rock and a hard place, where there’s no needed explanation for the billboard just being plain silly.
The sign was ironically (and not purposefully) displayed during Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
The Daily Wire reported:
The owner, [jeremy clemetson] of East of Chicago Pizza in Barberton, Ohio, has agreed to remove a billboard reading “Fat People Are Harder To Kidnap” after someone filed a complaint to the chain’s corporate headquarters about the advertisement’s timing.
“I never even thought about it in that way, and as soon as I thought it, because kidnapping is not a joke, we are taking it down,” Clemetson told the news agency, which describes him as “sensitive” to the concern.
If human trafficking ONLY happened in January, then fine. Understood. But it’s an awareness month!
January – not cool. All other months – totally cool.
UHM. WUT.
Honestly, I feel like the pizzeria contributed more to the awareness, but I guess everyone is a critic, amiright?
That’s almost analogous to when people get angry at their significant other for not giving them the moon on Valentine’s Day even though the love is shown throughout literally all remaining days/months of the year.
Definitely nowhere near as serious as human trafficking but I think you understand the picture I’m trying to paint here.
The informality of comedy can be very influential, even in the most daunting occasions.
I’m assuming the person who complained does NOT appreciate stand-up comedy… oof. You can almost feel the triggering.
Thankfully, the pizzeria was not discouraged and continues to post funny signs and displays to this day.
