UCLA Urban Planning Prof Says Home Ownership Is Racist And Impractical Because Of Climate Change

Hiya everyone!  Hope y’all had a good Christmas and are enjoying time off of work!  Daisy and I have been off the air this entire week, and will continue our time off next week as well. I’ve been MOSTLY unplugged from what’s going on in the world, but decided to get back on Twitter this morning.

Mistake.

There is some serious batsh*ttery happening in this article from Kian Goh, a UCLA Urban Planning professor.   I mean, the headline alone SCREAMS, “I AM A COMMUNIST.”

We need to “question the ideal of private homeownership?”  UM, NO WE FREAKING DON’T.

The premise of Kian’s piece is that California fires are a huge problem, PG&E has been mismanaged and ineffective and will likely have to file for bankruptcy, houses cost way too much in CA, and because climate change is going to end the world in less than two decades, we need to implement all of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal ideas, which includes government-planned-and-built public housing.

Because as everyone knows, government ALWAYS solves problems really well. /sarc.

Kian writes, as if it’d be a GOOD thing, that the Green New Deal would “invoke prior eras of government intervention” which would lead to “revitalized thinking about the social value of public goods.”

In other words, let’s go full commie, right here in the United States of America.

I mean, these leftists aren’t even trying to be stealth about what they want anymore.  They’re just saying outright that there should be no private home ownership, and that Ilhan Omar, Bernie Sanders, AOC, et al are actually REASONABLE THINKERS.

It’s just mindboggling.

Kian writes, basically, that home ownership is inherently racist, for all the tired reasons you’ve heard that EVERYTHING is racist.

Kian is bothered that the response to the CA fires and subsequent home damage/destruction has been to plan how to “harden” the physical structures and make them more prepared for such catastrophes.  She laments that there is no emphasis on “collective action or larger-scale spatial planning” and no discouragement of rebuilding on privately owned land.

And then she gets right to it:

Cheap energy is untenable in the face of climate emergency. And individual homeownership should be seriously questioned.

Kian wants the government to plan and build and own housing.  She wants cooperative housing and apartment buildings.  She, like Bernie Sanders, wants community-based land ownership.  She wants “climate-attuned” modes of living. But she recognizes that this idea may not go over so well with, say, NORMAL PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND THAT COMMUNISM SUCKS AND ENDS UP KILLING PEOPLE.

She writes:

Even with the threats of climate change and rampant fire looming, the ideals of the American dream that have been instilled for more than 150 years will be difficult to dispel. Those ideals have blinded us to other possibilities. Given the scope and scale of the climate crisis, it is shocking that we are being presented with so few serious, comprehensive alternatives for how to live. We need another kind of escape route—away from our ideologies of ownership and property, and toward more collective, healthy, and just cities.

She doesn’t mention the fact that California’s FEDERAL LANDS have been wildly mismanaged. Or that their idiotic policies actually prevented brush management, which could have prevented the spread of fires.

Huh.

Climate change hysteria isn’t about the climate at all.  It’s about government control.  That’s all it is.

I honestly don’t know if I should be relieved or terrified that these ideas are discussed so openly and shamelessly now.
