According to this, Sarah Palin discovered that her husband, Todd, wanted a divorce via an email from his attorney this past June, and that was three months prior to Todd actually filing for divorce in September.
Palin sat down with Dr. James Dobson recently and that interview has now been posted on YouTube. You can listen to it right here.
Her reaction to receiving that email? “I thought I got shot,” she said. It was just after their 31st wedding anniversary that Todd filed.
Yowza.
But here’s a silver lining – Palin says that she and Todd are going through marital counseling right now and that their marriage isn’t “over, over.” I hope that’s not wishful thinking on her part. As she stated in her conversation with Dobson, “marriage is so extremely important as foundation of our nation. It helps America that much greater, is that security of family, and I’m not to the point of wanting mine to be split.”
That may very well be, but if Todd IS to that point, I’m not sure she has much choice in the matter.
Their only child remaining at home, at age 11 (the other four kids are all adults now), is Trig, their son with Downs. Todd has asked for joint legal custody of Trig.
Last year, the Palins did a joint interview with the Daily Mail in which they talked about their then-30 years of marriage. Sarah said at the time, “Well it’s not easy there’s ups and downs and I think people just need to remember when you’re on that downswing there’s going to be an upswing, you know to hang in there… but we had hellish times.”
Dobson asked how people could best pray for Sarah, and her reply was that the prayer should be for, “God’s will to be done, but that God would make sure that we know that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side...”
He interjected at that point, saying, “and it still has to be mowed.” She repeated, “And it still has to be mowed.”
The Palins have been through an awful lot. I hope for their entire family’s sake that they get through this and remain together!
