Honestly, I think if a conservative merely glances in the direction of these wilting flowers, they spontaneously combust (that would actually be kind of entertaining, now that I think about it).
According to this, a group of conservative students at Santa Clara University wanted to start a university-chartered organization under the Turning Points USA banner. They submitted their proposal to the student senate – but it was voted down 16-10. The reasons? Other students claimed that the presence of such a group on campus would make them “feel unsafe” –
The Santa Clara student senate had voted 16-10 earlier this year to reject the student group, Turning Points USA, because opponents complained that its presence would make them feel “unsafe” — and because of the “mood” at the Jesuit bastion in the thick of Silicon Valley since Donald Trump was elected president.
Because I’m so sure Turning Points USA would have brought in a bunch of jackboots to campus and forced other students to attend the club’s events or to register to vote for Republicans or admit that there are only two biological genders or whatever heinous crimes the Cult of Social Justice has nightmares about when they imagine the conservative monsters under the bed.
Memo to SJWs – totalitarianism and forced compliance is your schtick. Not ours.
In a strange twist, the university’s vice provost Jeanne Rosenberger was all “Get over it, guys” and decided to grant Turning Points USA a charter on campus –
In an unusual move, Santa Clara vice provost Jeanne Rosenberger announced last week that she was using her power of administrative fiat to grant Turning Points USA status as a registered student organization.
And in a twist that is more like the “twist” of the sun rising in the east every morning, students claimed that the presence of such a club was so triggering that many of them contracted sudden stomach viruses (dude – you can take Pepto for that) –
Avery Unterreiner, a former Santa Clara student senator who is pursuing a master’s degree in teaching at the school, composed a 935-word screed assailing the decision to allow a conservative group on campus.
“I have sat by my computer for an hour now with my stomach turning and my feelings oscillating between disillusionment, disgust and anger,” Unterreiner wrote.
Turning Points USA is “associated with white supremacists, a professor watchlist that seeks to silence their right to opine in their own classrooms and conservative talking heads who hold blatantly misogynistic, Islamophobic and transphobic views,” Unterreiner also fulminated.
Well, we all know that these leftist nutballs freak out whenever someone brings up limited government, personal responsibility, and individual liberty. So, the accusations of racism, misogyny, homophobia, Islamophobia, and transphobia are nothing new. But the professor watchlist thing? That’s nothing new for college students. Ever heard of “Rate My Professors?” Yeah – that’s nothing unique to conservatism.
There are other letters claiming similar things about Turning Points USA, but you kind of get the drift. Special snowflakes realize that they’ve been going to school with conservative boogeymen (and boogeywomen) and they flip out. Just this time, a university official basically told them to grow up and accept that there are people who have different viewpoints than they do.
The drama will be intriguing to watch unfold.
