I haven’t seen this angle discussed much elsewhere, but it certainly bears talking about.
Before yesterday, Hillary Clinton’s health was a topic of serious conversation on the right, not so much on the left. Team Clinton did a pretty good job of hiding it and deflecting questions by blaming allergies. After all, the right is soooooo desperate to stop Hillary at any cost and they’ll make up ANY number of bizarre accusations to make it look like the left’s beloved Queen is not ready to be president. Because the right’s just a bunch of sexists that way.
Yeah – that’s TOTALLY why.
But then Hillary has to leave a memorial for September 11 early. A 9/11 memorial in New York City, no less – a place that she represented in the Senate. She’s caught on video stumbling out and having to be helped to her van by aides. Her security does its darnedest to keep the cameras from catching a glimpse of her, but the damage is done. The woman is sick and no amount of deflecting or excuses is going to change that.
One liberal, Dilbert creator Scott Adams (who has been known to write some fairly thoughtful political posts on his blog), explained why this is such a huge deal and why Donald Trump – for all intents and purposes – is now running unopposed. And it has EVERYTHING to do with September 11 –
If humans were rational creatures, the time and place of Clinton’s “overheating” wouldn’t matter at all. But when it comes to American psychology, there is no more powerful symbol of terrorism and fear than 9-11 . When a would-be Commander-in-Chief withers – literally – in front of our most emotional reminder of an attack on the homeland, we feel unsafe. And safety is our first priority.
Hillary Clinton just became unelectable.
The mainstream media might not interpret today’s events as a big deal. After all, it was only a little episode of overheating. And they will continue covering the play-by-play action until election day. But unless Trump actually does shoot someone on 5th Avenue, he’s running unopposed.
Adams is exactly right (and he deserves all the credit in the world for admitting this while other liberals are quick to proclaim Hillary as some great and glorious conquering hero for campaigning while she’s so ill). Hillary being carried out of a memorial service on September 11 in New York City is the worst possible thing that could have happened politically. September 11 is a stark reminder of the fear and vulnerability that so many Americans felt that day. We look to our leaders to be strong and unwavering in crisis. To see a potential POTUS stumbling out of there early – it doesn’t matter for what reason – it doesn’t look good. At all.
