ATTENTION SNOWFLAKES! Didn’t Get A Job After College? Sue Your School!

This just in from the Snowflake Generation: They’re all STILL a bunch of whiny babies.

According to this, a graduate of Thomas Jefferson School of Law named Anna Alaburda is suing the school because she graduated in 2008 and she can’t find a full-time job. Never mind that she’s turned down at least one job offer – but you have to scroll alllllllll the way down to the bottom of the article to find that out. But darn it – she went to law school, she graduated in the top of her class, she’s thousands of dollars in debt, she’s ENTITLED to a full-time job! The exact one she wants! And she means NOW!

Nearly a decade has passed since an aspiring young lawyer in California, Anna Alaburda, graduated in the top tier of her class, passed the state bar exam and set out to use the law degree she had spent about $150,000 to acquire.

 

But on Monday, in a San Diego courtroom, she will tell a story that has become all too familiar among law students in the United States: Since graduating from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2008, she has yet to find a full-time salaried job as a lawyer.

 

From there, though, her story has taken an unusual twist: Ms. Alaburda, 37, is the first former law student whose case against a law school, charging that it inflated the employment data for its graduates as a way to lure students to enroll, will go to trial.

But a California judge let Ms. Alaburda’s suit proceed, brushing aside efforts by the law school to derail her claims.

“It has taken five years,” said her lawyer, Brian A. Procel of Los Angeles. “But this will be the first time a law school will be on trial to defend its public employment figures.”

Thomas Jefferson’s lawyers will argue that Ms. Alaburda never incurred any actual injury, because she was offered — and turned down — a law firm job with a $60,000 salary shortly after she graduated.

 

Ms. Alaburda said, in legal papers, that she received “only one job offer — one which was less favorable than non-law-related jobs that were available” — after she sent her résumé to more than 150 law firms and practicing lawyers. She is asking $125,000 in damages.

Waaaaait – you HAD a job offer, but you turned it down because it was “less favorable” than you wanted. Lady, IT’S A FREAKING JOB OFFER! I don’t care what kind of accolades and pats-on-the-back your professors gave you in college. Everyone starts at the bottom when they enter the job market. It takes time to work your way up! Nobody except professional athletes start out a career making six-figure salaries! (And even then, it’s a crapshoot.) Take the $60,000 job and run with it! How big of a spoiled, entitled brat do you have to be to turn down a job offer like that?

Good grief, child – you said you were intelligent!

Let’s see – law student, feels like she’s entitled to a job after graduation, thinks nothing’s her fault. Yep. Perfect combination of whiny entitled college kid. I don’t care that she’s almost 40 – she’s epitomizes the selfish spoiled generation of Millennials. Her professors must be SO PROUD.

You know what most people do after graduating and not landing a job in their chosen field? They look at what their options are. They go out of state, if need be. Some even change career paths and apply for other jobs. Yes, it sucks and yes, it’s tough (especially in the Obama economy). But we all go through it. My own career path didn’t turn out the way I envisioned, but that doesn’t mean I’m suing the university that I got my graduate degree from. It just means that the job market for what I wanted to do wasn’t there. But then I found something that I’m more than happy with and that I can make a living from.

Here’s a life lesson that most Sane Adults learn at one time or another (sometimes more than once), but clearly what many of us learn by age 15, some people never understand: Suck it up, buttercup.
