These little "victories" that liberal feminists keep touting continue to remind me why they are a complete and utter joke.
According to this, Facebook's friend request icon got a bit of a makeover when their design manager Catilin Winner was all – OMG OFFENDED that the original icon was a man standing in front of a woman. Like this –

See that? Can't you just SMELL the microaggression? (OH NOES! It's triggering me! I think I may faint! Someone, fetch my smelling salts!)
Now, however, women don't have to endure the oh-so-PAINFUL indignity of standing behind the dude and his stupid little rooster-tail haircut. Because NOW, the woman is standing IN FRONT of the guy. Down with the patriarchy!

Winner even gave the woman's hair a trim because UGH DARTH VADER HELMET HAIR are you serious? No, really – she said that in the article. As well as getting SUPER OFFENDED that the female icon had a chip on her shoulder because she had been standing behind the dude and his shoulder would have covered her slightly. So now the guy is the one with the cut-out shoulder (anyone gonna ask how this offends guys with broad shoulders? Oh that's right – their opinions don't matter. Evil white male oppression. I forgot. My bad).
So that's the Friend Request icon. All nice and microaggression-free for the easily-offended feminists who use Facebook. But it doesn't stop. Because Winner is DETERMINED to find other things in Facebook's designs to be offended about and she is going to FIX ALL THE THINGS!
“As a result of this project, I’m on high alert for symbolism,” Winner wrote. “I try to question all icons, especially those that feel the most familiar. For example, is the briefcase the best symbol for ‘work’? Which population carried briefcases and in which era? What are other ways that ‘work’ could be symbolized and what would those icons evoke for the majority of people on Earth?“All those good intentions I met on the first day were real,” she continued. “We all want to continue to make Facebook the best it can be, to have culture of doing rather than complaining, to grow a company where ideas can spread organically, and to build a platform that is relevant for people from it’s core features down to the smallest of icons.”
What's the betting that she comes up with icons for all 58 gender options available on Facebook?
