Alabama Woman Reveals Why She Joined ISIS (I Still Don’t Get It)

The Islamic State savages are on some kind of sick recruiting campaign here in America. And in some cases, it’s working which completely boggles my mind. Six alleged terrorists were recently arrested in Minnesota for planning on joining ISIS. How in the world could someone born and raised in the freaking land of the free be drawn to an oppressive group that gets a high from slaughtering innocent people?

And you know what I don’t get, especially? The WOMEN who join ISIS. Are they aware of how women are treated under Sharia Law? They’re deprived of basic rights. I suppose they don’t mind hiding their faces or not being able to walk in public without a male family member. Or being in “temporary” marriages (aka a loophole for prostitution.) Or getting beaten for not submitting properly. Or getting gang-raped by multiple men.

You’re literally signing up to get treated like crap by men who behead people for a living.

But I guess they look beyond that. At least, that’s what the 20-year-old Alabama woman who left to join ISIS is doing. Hoda Muthana was raised as a practicing Muslim, but her father never thought she would become so radicalized. She began watching Islamic scholars on YouTube and distancing herself from everyone else a year prior to leaving for Syria. She told BuzzFeed about her transition.

“I started getting interested in my deen [religious life] around 2012,” Hoda said on Kik of her religious awakening. “I felt like my life was so bland without it. Life has much more meaning when u know why ur here.”

 

These Internet scholars influenced her faith more than her local religious influences, according to Hoda. “I didn’t like my Islamic community far too much.”

 

“I literally isolated myself from all my friends and community members the last year I was in America,” she said, explaining that she didn’t want to associate with anyone who didn’t share her interpretation of Islam, an interpretation that she said demanded every Muslim move to ISIS-controlled territory. “As I grew closer to my deen, I lost all my friends, I found none in my community that desired to tread the path I was striving for.”

 

Hoda told BuzzFeed News that she had been planning to move to Syria since November 2013. “People are nice [in Hoover] but they’re all about the dunya (the material world), which I didn’t like,” she said.

So there you have it. It wasn’t the kittens or Nutella. Her life was just too bland, and now she has meaning.

I honestly have zero sympathy for her.
