Ah yes. Another rich celebrity pretending that they're so in touch with regular Americans. It’s so cute.
According to this, food snob Gwyneth Paltrow is attempting to live on $29 worth of "food stamps" for a week. Her effort is in response to a challenge issued by celebrity chef Mario Batali.
“Every New Yorker CAN DO something to end hunger,” Batali wrote on the Food Bank For New York City website. “We challenge you to walk in the shoes of 1.7 million New Yorkers who rely on SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) by taking the #FoodBankNYCChallenge or making a donation to #CanDoNYC today.”
So on Thursday, Paltrow tweeted out her $29 worth of food for the week. See anything odd?

First of all, many SNAP recipients receive more than $29 a week. The benefits vary. According to the USDA, the maximum allotment available for a household of one is $194 a month. That alone exceeds $29 a week. Also, SNAP literally stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Keyword– supplemental. It’s presumed that folks are using it as a helpful addition to their regular shopping. (Also, if you’re on a $29 budget, WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU BUY SEVEN LIMES?!)
But I'm just wondering. Where’s the ramen noodles? Frozen veggies? (They last longer.) And did she bother to use coupons?
Then again, this is coming from Paltrow. The prissy actress who can’t live without Vegenaise and thinks Europe is SO MUCH better than America.
She’s also the woman who said, “I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a can,” and “I am who I am. I can’t pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year.”
Also, she named one of her kids Apple. So there’s that too.
