Apparently, Six-Day-Old Babies Aren’t Considered People And Their Deaths Don’t Matter

I don’t drink alcoholic beverages myself. But things like this make me understand why there are people who do.

According to this, a judge in New York state reversed the sentencing of Jennifer Jorgensen, who was previously convicted of killing her child during a car accident in which Jorgensen (who was eight months pregnant at the time) was under the influence. She crash into another car, which killed the couple driving that car, and her baby had to be delivered via emergency C-section. Unfortunately the baby girl died six days later, which is where the homicide charge came from. Prosecutors wanted Jorgensen charged in the death of her child, as well as the other charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving and killing the couple in the other car. And she was convicted! At least, at first.

But then someone had to come up and say “The baby’s injuries were sustained before she was born! She wasn’t a person yet! The mother can’t be held accountable for that death!” And then her sentence was overturned on a stupid pro-abortion technicality. From the article –

In an eight-page decision issued Thursday, a five-member majority of the Court of Appeals said in a decision written by Judge Eugene Pigott that the central question in the case was whether the state Legislature intended “to hold pregnant women criminally responsible for engaging in reckless conduct against themselves and their unborn fetuses, such that they should be subject to criminal liability for prenatal conduct that results in postnatal death? Under the current statutory scheme, the answer to this question is no.”
The decision noted that the law criminalizing such conduct is located in the statute on intentional self-abortion, where the offense is “no greater than a misdemeanor.”

“No greater than a misdemeanor”?!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I want to punch pro-choice arguments in the throat (that is, if abstract ideas had throats that I could punch). HOW can you sit there with the dead body of a tiny baby and say “Oh – that kid doesn’t count. She wasn’t a person yet, so she doesn’t get justice.” Like crap she doesn’t! She was born alive! Injured and fighting for her life, yes. But she was alive! And she only died because her mother was stupid enough to drive while drunk and high. Where is the fairness in that?
