Condoleezza Rice Shuts Down NBC Reporter Who Floats Loaded Question on Race-Relations Under Trump

If I may take the liberty of crowning today’s official Queen of the Political Arena, I would like to bestow that honor on Condoleezza Rice.

In an interview with NBC, the former Secretary of State shut down a liberal victimhood train of thought before it even left the station:

“It sure doesn’t feel worse than when I grew up in Jim Crow Alabama, okay?” Rice said of current racial tensions in America, cutting off interviewer Sheinelle Jones. “So let’s drop this notion that we’re worse in race relations today than we were in the past. Really? That means we made no progress. Really? And so I think the hyperbole about how much worse it is isn’t doing us any good.”

How do I create a portable soundbite of Rice saying “Really?” as a ready response to every encounter with stupidity I experience during the day?

While some might accuse her of being rude by not allowing Jones to finish her question, I think Rice correctly realized that the only way of handling this absurd rhetoric is to shut it down before it can take off. And it is absurd. Sure, I wasn’t around before or during the Civil Rights Movement, but I paid enough attention in history class to know that state-sponsored segregation, rampant lynchings, and overwhelming police brutality (to name but a few racially-motivated crimes of the era) are a hell of a lot worse than being black in 2019.

So, in recognition of Condi’s truth bombs and utter refusal to play along with divisive and false narratives, I hereby bestow today’s Internet Queen crown on Former Secretary Rice. Wear it with pride.
