Chris Cuomo Believes ‘Gun Vocab’ Is Nothing More Than A Distraction

Chris Cuomo isn’t interested in getting the news right. He’s only interested in touting the left’s agenda, which can be summed up thusly:

Scary looking guns = BAD
Regular looking guns = ALSO bad, but not AS bad as scary looking ones
No guns = IDEAL

The important thing Chris is for everyone to speak the same language on the issues. A talk on gun control should be had using the appropriate and correct gun terms and language. Too many people get frustrated over the circular arguments like the definition of “semi-automatic”

Dude is right. That’s a big problem. Liberals carelessly throw around gun terms– terms that they don’t even understand– to advance their narrative, and we’re constantly over here correcting them. It just proves our point that they want to enact legislation on something they don’t even understand in the first place. You know how many liberals don’t know the difference between something as simple as semi-automatic and automatic? You know how many liberals will scream about SUPER SCARY GUN features like SCAAAARY looking hand guards (or as they say, “barrel shrouds”), even though it simply prevents the shooter from burning himself (or herself!) on a hot barrel?

Pelosi and her lib friends would forge legislation to ban that in a hot minute, even though it makes no sense.

Chris doesn’t care. Language is irrelevant. It’s a distraction, really.

I’m really sick of hearing the term “military style rifle.” It’s completely idiotic. Military weapons are fully automatic– machine-gun style. Civilian weapons are semi– one shot per trigger pull. AR-15s are not “assault weapons.”

If that definition doesn’t quite cut it for you, here’s how David Kopel (via the Washington Examiner) describes it in an article in the “Journal of Contemporary Law” based on a definition from the Department of Defense (emphasis added):

As the United States Defense Department’s Defense Intelligence Agency book Small Arms Identification and Operation Guide explains, “assault rifles” are “short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges.”[21] In other words, assault rifles are battlefield rifles which can fire automatically.[22]

Weapons capable of fully automatic fire, including assault rifles, have been regulated heavily in the United States since the National Firearms Act of 1934.[23] Taking possession of such weapons requires paying a $200 federal transfer tax and submitting to an FBI background check, including ten-print fingerprints.[24]

Many civilians have purchased semiautomatic-only rifles that look like military assault rifles. These civilian rifles are, unlike actual assault rifles, incapable of automatic fire.

When we don’t pay attention to language, Chris, Congress writes stupid laws. Take, for example, the assault weapons law back in 1994.

 The 1994 assault weapons law banned semi-automatic rifles only if they had any two of the following five features in addition to a detachable magazine: a collapsible stock, a pistol grip, a bayonet mount, a flash suppressor, or a grenade launcher.

For those who don’t know, those are all cosmetic features.

That’s it. Not one of those cosmetic features has anything whatsoever to do with how or what a gun fires. Note that under the 1994 law, the mere existence of a bayonet lug, not even the bayonet itself, somehow turned a garden-variety rifle into a bloodthirsty killing machine. Guns with fixed stocks? Very safe. But guns where a stock has more than one position? Obviously they’re murder factories. A rifle with both a bayonet lug and a collapsible stock? Perish the thought.

A collapsible stock does not make a rifle more deadly. Nor does a pistol grip. Nor does a bayonet mount. Nor does a flash suppressor. And for heaven’s sake, good luck finding, let alone purchasing, 40mm explosive grenades for your rifle-mounted grenade launcher (and remember: the grenade launcher itself is fine, just as long as you don’t put the ultra-deadly bayonet lug anywhere near it).

This is why language matters, Chris Cuomo. The left uses “scary terms” to push their agenda, and the worst part? Their agenda does NOTHING to stop mass shootings. It does NOTHING to protect our kids.
