Emotional Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Student Calls ‘BS’ On The NRA

Over the weekend, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School senior Emma Gonzalez gave a passionate speech calling out Congress, Trump and Second Amendment supporters for refusing to act.

“Every single person up here today, all these people should be home grieving. But instead we are up here standing together because if all our government and President can do is send thoughts and prayers, then it’s time for victims to be the change that we need to see,” she said. “Since the time of the Founding Fathers and since they added the Second Amendment to the Constitution, our guns have developed at a rate that leaves me dizzy. The guns have changed but our laws have not.”

“We certainly do not understand why it should be harder to make plans with friends on weekends than to buy an automatic or semi-automatic weapon,” she continued.

I know she just went through something totally traumatic. I understand why she’s desperately looking for answers, but I’m not going to sit here and pretend that she’s touting facts. She’s not. It’s not “harder” to make plans with friends than to buy a weapon, ESPECIALLY an automatic weapon. WTH? That’s a blatantly false liberal talking point.

“In Florida, to buy a gun you do not need a permit, you do not need a gun license, and once you buy it you do not need to register it. You do not need a permit to carry a concealed rifle or shotgun,” she continued. “You can buy as many guns as you want at one time.”

Did you catch that? “You do not need a permit to carry a concealed rifle or shotgun.” Uh…because you CAN’T properly conceal a rife or shotgun. Holy crap people. Pay attention. You do need a license to carry a concealed handgun. I know. I went through the process. I’m licensed. I have no criminal background. I’m not mentally ill. My “permit” is the Second Amendment.

The people in the government who were voted into power are lying to us. And us kids seem to be the only ones who notice and our parents to call BS. Companies trying to make caricatures of the teenagers these days, saying that all we are self-involved and trend-obsessed and they hush us into submission when our message doesn’t reach the ears of the nation, we are prepared to call BS. Politicians who sit in their gilded House and Senate seats funded by the NRA telling us nothing could have been done to prevent this, we call BS. They say tougher guns laws do not decrease gun violence. We call BS. They say a good guy with a gun stops a bad guy with a gun. We call BS. They say guns are just tools like knives and are as dangerous as cars. We call BS. They say no laws could have prevented the hundreds of senseless tragedies that have occurred. We call BS. That us kids don’t know what we’re talking about, that we’re too young to understand how the government works. We call BS.

It’s so sad. She’s so misguided. This isn’t about the NRA. In fact, the NRA’s political donations are CHUMP CHANGE compared to other influencers.

And it’s not like the NRA supports some horrible cause. It champions the Second Amendment. Period. That’s its big crime– supporting one of YOUR Constitutional rights.

The NRA isn’t the problem. To reduce it to something so absurd does a disservice to those who are grieving. Liberals are encouraging people to direct all their anger and frustration toward an organization that has NOTHING to do with the tragedy. Attacking the NRA is NOT the answer. That does NOTHING to prevent this from happening again.

Liberals hate the NRA, because it’s an organization truly saturated by support from real American people. It’s made up of everyday, law-abiding patriotic Americans. We’re who they fear most. They know they can’t come between us and our rights. They can’t emotionally sway us into giving them more political power.

I’m not trying to slam Gonzalez. She’s young, emotional and just went through something horrific. But facts cannot be ignored, and calling BS on Actual Facts isn’t much of an argument.

Seriously? You call BS on that indisputable fact? Tell that to this JROTC member.

Both sides need to check their emotion at the door, or we’ll never get anywhere.
