Bernie Sanders is praising almighty Iceland for– wait for it– making it illegal to pay men more than women for no apparent reason.
Iceland just became the first country in the world to make it illegal to pay men more than women. In the United States in 2016, black women made 62.5 cents on the dollar compared to white men and hispanic women made 54.4 cents. That is a disgrace. pic.twitter.com/y2sxSWYVrm

Everything about that tweet is a disgrace. For starters, does The Equal Pay Act of 1963 ring a bell? It should. Kennedy signed it, meaning Iceland is NOT the first country in the world to do that. Nice try, Bernie.
Second of all, Bernie’s cherry-picking stats. He’s perpetuating the “gender-wage gap” myth. If there’s a disparity, it comes down to nothing more than individual choices. Women are more likely to choose lower-paying jobs. They’re more likely to work part-time and work less hours so they can take care of their family. Men are traditionally the breadwinners who go for the higher paying jobs. This isn’t always the case, but OF COURSE there’s going to be a disparity when you compare female secretary pay to male lawyer pay. Bernie’s stats are disingenuous. He doesn’t take those facts into consideration.
The existence of Bernie’s “wage gap” is due to FREE CHOICES. I don’t know about you, but I like having the freedom to choose to NOT be a doctor or lawyer.
Wage gap is a Myth!
Only those who don't understand principles of Free-Market & Mathematics talk about it.
🤔 & of course desperate politicians trying to add a few voters..@HayatAlvi— Nitin Kapoor (@NitinKapoor2020) January 3, 2018
The fact that you are trying to sell this as truth is comical. cc 1963

Weren't you alive in 1963, when the Equal Pay Act was passed, making it illegal to pay differently based on sex?
— William (@LastWordWilliam) January 4, 2018
You should earn at most 30 cents to the dollar of a lawmaker who actually knows the Equal Pay Act of 1963. Because you're incompetent.
— Horst von Horstmann (@Kaboom1776) January 4, 2018
Equal pay for equal work is already a law in the US. Please look at what is already made law in 1963. The US did it first.

Dear Bernie:
You're over half-a-century late.

This has been illegal in the USA since 1963. Here, since you're too busy pushing propaganda to do any real research, I will help you: https://t.co/Gww3UBnx7d

Already been done. Several times, because you people keep crying that it's still not illegal when there have been several acts to reassure it.
If it gets done again, within 5 years you'll claim it hasn't been done. https://t.co/AMvh2vk0e6
