Shepard Smith Goes Off On The Trump Administration: ‘Why Is It Lie After Lie After Lie?’

Shepard Smith has been extra– what’s the word?– grouchy lately. I have Fox News on in the background almost all day and watch his show in passing and catch the little things he says. He was basically losing his mind the other day when the White House held an off-camera press briefing. I can’t remember his exact words, but it was something like, “The White House will let us hear what’s going on, but not you. So much for transparency.”

But on Friday, he officially went off the deep end. He– an individual who sells himself as a straight reporter, NOT a commentator– went off on the Trump administration and accused it of lying to everyone’s face.

“We’re still not clean on this, Chris. If there’s nothing there — and that’s what they tell us, they tell us there’s nothing to this and nothing came of it, there’s a nothingburger, it wasn’t even memorable, didn’t write it down, didn’t tell you about it, because it wasn’t anything so I didn’t even remember it — with a Russian interpreter in the room at Trump Tower? If all of that, why all these lies?” Smith asked.

“Why is it lie after lie after lie? If you clean, come on clean, you know? My grandmother used to say when first we practice to — Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive,” he continued. “The deception, Chris, is mind-boggling. And there are still people who are out there who believe we’re making it up. And one day they’re gonna realize we’re not and look around and go, Where are we, and why are we getting told all these lies?”

His tirade left Chris Wallace practically speechless.

Look– balance is important. I’m all for dissenting views. I welcome it. We don’t want to hear solely from blind Trump butt-kissers. We don’t want to turn into MSNBC liberals, who practically explode when they hear a dissenting view. However, Smith prides himself on being an objective journalist, and he doesn’t sound very objective here.
