Obama’s Legacy: 10.7 Million More People On Food Stamps

Talk about solidifying a legacy.

According to that sourcelink, the number of people on food stamps has increased by about 10.7 million since Obama took office. No jokes here. This data comes straight from the Department of Agriculture. See for yourself.

In 2009, about 33,490,000 people received the assistance. Over the years, the number has increased to an astonishing 44,219,123 (as of October 2016, at least). Obviously, this comes with a large price tag, which you– the hardworking taxpayers– generously cover. In 2009, the food stamp benefits clocked in at around $50.3 billion. It’s since increased to $66.6 billion. As in, + $16.3 billion. I guess that’s what “hope and change” looks like.

The “good” news out of all of this? Well, it’s not actually good news. It doesn’t even take away the sting, really. The average monthly benefit received has remained unchanged. (It was $125.31, now it’s $125.51). So basically, the people who were receiving food stamps before Obama took office still are, plus 10.7 million more.
