November 9, 2022I know I’m going to upset some people with this one, but just hear me out. Trump needs to shut up. In an interview with Fox, Trump said that if DeSantis ran in 2024 he would say things that, “won’t be very flattering” about DeSantis. Why is he the way that he is?
I love Trump. I voted for him in 2016 and again in 2020. I would vote for him again in 2024 if he’s our guy. But listen, I don’t want him to be our guy. The thing is, he is constantly trying to pick fights with everyone and it’s going to divide our party. If he keeps it up, we will lose miserably in 2024, no matter who the candidate is.
If Trump and DeSantis go head to head in a primary for the presidency there will obviously be debating, but the infighting before we get there has to stop. It’s divisive to our party. I have said since 2016 that I believe the reason Hillary lost in 2016 was because their party was so divided between the Hillary and the Bernie supporters. We are starting to see the same things on our side of the aisle and it’s going to be our downfall in 2024.
DeSantis won big last night. He flipped Miami-Dade red for the first time in 20 years. Fighting with DeSantis is not something Trump should be doing. But also, just think about how bad it would be if he spends the next 2 years bashing DeSantis, we get to 2024 and the DeSantis voters decide not to back Trump or vice versa. Can you say blue wave? I don’t even want to think about that.
On top of the DeSantis remarks, Trump also said that if GOP candidates win he should “get all the credit,” but if not, he shouldn’t be blamed. Meanwhile, he was outwardly against GOP Senate candidate Joe O’Dea and was happy about his loss.
A GOP Senate seat was lost. He was very open about not supporting the candidate. He should be taking at least some responsibility for that L. Just another reason why we need him to just sit back and be quiet for right now.
I know we are still 2 years away from 2024, and we’re still not even through yesterday’s election yet. But, I just need to say this now, and maybe every day until the 2024 election, DO NOT allow our party to be torn in half. We will have a veeerrry long road ahead of us if we let this divide our party.

You have to have a huge ego in the political class, but Trump’s is frequently off-the-chart. Slamming DeSantis, the best and brightest heir-apparent, will get him nowhere with the majority of conservative voters. Trump forgets that he did not create the movement. Ever the opportunist, he saw the Tea Party as a vehicle for success; not the other way around.
I can totally see the irritation with Trump in his comments about putting information out there about DeSantis to win. But I think we miss the truth of politics and how they ran against Trump too. I just want everyone to be consistent. Trump does most of his badmouthing in public he doesn’t hide behind a facade and stab you behind the back. So many of the Republics do that sneaky mess. DeSantis has done his own dirty work against Trump as well with the endorsement of the anti-Trump O’Shea senator candidate for CO. That candidate said he would actively campaign against Trump if Trump ran again. DeSantis endorsed him and that was his only senate endorsement. So DeSantis did what Trump did too and we can’t pretend that DeSantis is less nasty and destructive to the party than Trump. He wants to win too and he seems to be a person that stabs then hides the knife. There are positives and negatives to both men and neither have put their hat in the ring either.
I agree, but he’s starting crap with DeSantis before we even know if DeSantis is running. The other problem with Trump being more outspoken (which I do love. I love that he tells it like it is. I am one of those people that love him for his personality.) he needs to be careful. When he speaks out against another member of the party people will not vote for that person. IF both Trump and DeSantis run and IF Trump isn’t the nominee, I’m worried he will convince some conservatives not to vote for DeSantis/whoever the GOP nominee is, or not to vote at all because of what he has to say. Which will lead to another 4 more years of whatever nut job the DNC handpicks next. That’s why I get nervous, and a little angry, when he starts up with this kind of thing.
I hear you Danielle, Trump oftentimes is his own worst enemy. He reacts and his opponents like DeSantis and the GOP leaders know what buttons to push to get him to lash out. He needs better self-control over his mouth! He should use some of the same techniques he used to not use drugs or alcohol to keep his mouth shut.
I was reading some reports about how the GOP leadership had been smiling and talking up Trump but behind his back were working with the large donors and DeSantis to over take Trump. That was the explanation given for the DeSantimonious nickname. I’ve concluded that Trump is the poor bedside manner doctor but very capable and delivers. The GOP leadership are the nice bedside manner but condescending doctor and ok doctor that barely delivers quality solutions.
Trump’s ego is a double edged sword. It’s a great weapon when wielded against your opponents but can easily be turned against you. He’s turned into somewhat of a HRC in that he thinks the presidency is his right. While I think he did plenty of good during his term people seem to forget that he was more or less picked by the Democrat controlled media for sabotage as they thought he was the only candidate that Hillary stood a chance of beating.
Yes! This exactly! He’s great, but also I’m worried he’s going to divide the party. He did great things, I am happy with what he did with his time in office. But I just wish he would stop talking sooooo much. Especially now before we even know who is running.
I agree Danielle. I love that Don’s a fighter, but I hate that he’s a chaotic whirlwind of narcissism. All he’ll do at this point is get the libs out in droves to hand him his a$$ again. He doesn’t understand just how much the left absolutely hates him. Didn’t get the hint when a geriatric dunderhead who refused to go out and campaign beat him handily.
He won’t move enough Rs and Indies this time to get elected. We couldn’t even move enough of them THIS time after a 2-year sh!tshow to create the predicted “Red Wave.” They just won’t show up. I’ll vote for him if he’s our nominee and pray he wins, but I’ll do so with my nose pinched and no expectation my prayer would be answered in the affirmative.
Yep! I think he did a great job as President, I’ll for sure vote for him again if he’s the guy. But I’m worried if he’s the guy we’ll get stuck with dipsh*t lefty puppet round 2.

While doing that, do not fall into the “Party above all” trap. That leads to craziness. We still have to call out things like Trump acting like an asshat or Todd Young being the “Duke of Spendingburg” or Cruz losing all “smaller federal government” principles when law enforcement is involved. The Man is far more important than the letter after the name.
I believe anyone who runs for office has a bit of narcissist in them, especially those who run for President. I think we’ve forgotten all the primaries we’ve had before Trump. None of them were all that friendly and they all fought dirty when it came to those at the top. The top or predetermined crowned winner tried to play it as clean as possible in public view but in private was not the same. But at the end they try to bring everyone together.
Just curious. Do you think if Trump loses fair and square to DeSantis he will accept the result and endorse him? His massive ego would never allow him to do that. As much as I like him, about 50% of the country hates him just as much. His ceiling is 47%-48%.
A large portion of the country just hates Republicans so I don’t think that’s something to factor for the primary. In fact Trump is probably the greatest representation of how Democrats are conditioned to hate anything Republican as he was loved by almost everyone up until he ran on the Republican ticket.
I agree on not putting the party above all else. But I can say with almost complete certainty I won’t vote for whoever the other side is choosing in 2024. I’m worried that people will fall victim to Trump or no one. Or if it’s not Trump, then people will get mad and not vote for the GOP candidate because it’s not Trump, and that’s not good either. Especially when we see what they have to work with on the other side of the aisle.
But yes, I agree, and we for sure need to call people out on our side out when they deserve it!
