Y’all. WHAT HAVE I BEEN SAYING. I have been talking about the GOP’s likely failure to take the Senate in November, and so many people (including my own husband!) have said that I’m totally wrong – that a red wave is coming, that things are so bad that there’s no way the GOP will lose, etc. etc. And I’m typically the optimist, but on this? No. I think we have some absolutely craptacular candidates, and I also think Ben is right about Trump in this thread (which I have ALSO been saying, and have been roundly criticized for it).
The GOP is miscalibrating the very nature of the American political scene right now, based on a myth. In fact, the entirety of American politics is based on dueling versions of the same false mythology: the Mythology of the Emerging Democratic Minority Majority (MEDMM).

Meanwhile, Republicans have ALSO banked on MEDMM to the extent that they believe only a Magical Person™ like Donald Trump can defeat it.

Two things can be true at once: first, the FBI raid on Trump looks like a political hit; second, the more Republicans talk about Trump, the worse they do electorally.

There is a reason Democrats are eager to keep Trump at the center of the conversation: half of independents say Trump is a major factor in their vote, and they're breaking 4-1 for the Democrats. Republicans shouldn't play that game. If they do, they're cruising for a bruising.

Democrats: We don't want to talk about Biden, the economy, our perversion of the education system, or Afghanistan. Let's talk about Trump!

Republicans: GREAT IDEA!!!1!!!! LET'S TALK ABOUT TRUMP!!!11!!!
But why are Republicans losing momentum? A mystery wrapped in an enigma.
There is no question that Trump has widespread support among Republicans. People keep pointing to Trump’s picks winning primaries as if that’s somehow forecasting the midterms. But it’s the Independents that will decide elections. And that’s the voting bloc that most polls apparently show is leaning more Democrat, especially in light of Dobbs.
I think I’m most surprised by the fact that ALEX JONES has decided to stop supporting Trump, which is genuinely amazing to me. Check out his most recent rationale. The gist is that the Jones crowd is angry at Trump for continuing to promote the jab. Y’all have probably seen by now that the Left’s new narrative is to BLAME Trump for Operation Warp Speed – that he skirted timelines, etc. So it’s natural for Trump’s immediate reaction to be one of defensiveness. He almost can’t win in this situation, because if he defends the timeline, he angers the Jones crowd (of which, let’s face it, there are MANY), and if he DOESN’T defend the timeline, it’s a tacit admission, perhaps, that he mishandled the shot’s development. There’s really no good out for him. Trump has always been right to be against mandates, but that no longer seems to be enough. Jones is calling him out for his refusal to recognize the harm that the shots have done.
Anyway, as usual, when Republicans SHOULD have an easy road to victory, this is where we are.
Sigh.

why would we think the swamp isn’t going to cheat again in 2022? they didn’t cheat because they didn’t like Trump. they cheated because they needed to win the presidency to be able to keep on destroying America. they NEED a weak America in order for the great reset to be possible and Trump just happened to be in their way.
Sadly this is like playing a game of football where one team has the ability to decide where the ball is placed on the field after each play. So long as the media can set the narrative du jour any ground gained can be lost in a moment’s notice even with advanced forethought.
I’m happy to stop talking about Trump. Like you, Mock, I voted for him and I think he did great things for America. But now he’s become a liability to us. The left hate him so badly, they stole an election 😉 just to make sure they punished him. So let’s focus on Ron DeSantis. Seriously—he’s our best hope! I pray he runs and wins.
I wish I could give your post 1,000 likes.
President Trump, if you are reading this, please do not run any more and announce it very soon.
We won’t ever let you live it down. Your entire world is created from lies. The GOP has absolutely nothing to offer Americans. Time for you to go.
I find it amusing how history seems to have been forgotten. Literally all the things lauded by modern Democrats were done by the GOP and all the things they are campaigning against were done by their forefathers. The narrative of the “party switch” is the true lie.
The GOP is to civil society what you are to intelligent conversation.
When making an insult through an analogy it’s best to have the rely on objective facts instead of like your opinion man.
The GOP offers freedom and truly liberal values while trying to maintain the nation as a distinct entity.
The Democrats offer dependency and eventually tyranny through a new style of feudalism.
