We got tagged in an interesting tweet earlier today.
@chicksonright Did you hear #KevinCostner supports #LizCheney ? I'm no longer watching #Yellowstone #ChicksOnRight

Now, I’m not trying to go after John in any way. He brings up an interesting point. In our livestream this morning, we played a video from an absolute lunatic on TikTok who doesn’t want to ever receive services from anyone who supports/supported Trump. BEHOLD.
TikToker says she doesn’t want anyone who voted for Trump ringing up her groceries, fix her car, or provide other services pic.twitter.com/ExOqV2yQX2

Clearly, this woman is batsh*t. I mean, I think most people could agree on that.
John, on the other hand, is simply choosing to stop watching a show because he disagrees with Kevin Costner’s political views. He’s not being a psycho about it. He’s just choosing to spend his time a different way. He’s doing what lots of folks do when it comes to boycotting products/companies they don’t like or disagree with in some way.
I’ve never done that. And I’ve gotten crap for it, honestly. People are all, “OMG WHY DO YOU GO TO STARBUCKS” or “OMG WHY DO YOU WATCH NETFLIX” or whatever company they are outraged by at the moment, and they project their outrage onto me and expect me to fall in line. And these are like-minded folks making a point to put their money where their mouths are. I totally get that. Good on them, if that’s what they want to do. Perhaps they believe they’ve got a higher moral ground to stand on as a result. But I’ll just say this: my ground is a lot more fun. 🙂 As my sister always says, “I’m here for a good time, not for a long time.”
The thing is, I’m much too selfish to give up stuff I love just because I disagree with the provider/creator of that stuff on politics. First of all, I think about all of the people whose politics I don’t even know about. Back when I fell in love with the movie The Shawshank Redemption, I had no idea that Stephen King was a liberal lunatic. And now that I know, I’m still not gonna stop claiming Shawshank as my favorite movie of all time. Why would I pretend I don’t love it just because the writer of the story is a psycho? I would basically never watch a movie again if I based movie selections on the political purity of every single person involved with every film.
Same with music. Many artists I love listening to are super leftists. I’m not going to stop listening to music I love simply because the artists vote differently than I do. I can’t imagine how boring and dull my world would be if I turned off/turned away everything created by people who I disagree with politically.
I responded to John with this:
Why deny yourself a show you enjoy just because of a political choice someone makes? I don't get that. I watch/listen to TONS of people whose political opinions I don't agree with or just don't know. Life would be pretty boring otherwise! 😃

I have struggled with this one in the past but at the end of the day I agree with you Mock! If I boycotted every television show, movie or company because of their liberal views I would being living a very boring life and would likely starve and be naked. 😂
I Hear you about not being the same as the left. I just have a hard time seeing past some of these people’s politics anymore because they are SO in your face and SO damn annoying. Take Bette Midler. I don’t think I can watch the Hocus Pocus sequel because I just can’t see her as anything more than a spastic harpy. Whoopi and company have ruined Star Trek for me with their blathering. In fact, I don’t watch American TV much anymore because these people are so loud and in our faces I can’t see past it. And it isn’t like, if Whoopi came into a business I owned, I wouldn’t take her money and help her out, I just won’t GIVE her my $$$ by watching her crap. I’d still help her if she was stuck on the side of the road. I would still call 911 if she needed help. I’d change her tire.
I’ve dropped shows, networks, products–plenty of them. Why should I use my money and time to support someone who hates and degrades everything I believe in? I can live without watching that show or network, or using that product. I don’t feel deprived at all. There’s always something else to watch or use. As for those I don’t know about, I’ll deal with those if I find out about them. Not knowing about them all is no reason for me to keep supporting the ones I do know about. However, in this case with Yellowstone, I don’t need to worry about it, because I already dropped the show a while back. I tried the first season and decided against watching it because I couldn’t find a single character to like. I especially despised the daughter.
I don’t watch US tv anymore hardly. I mostly watch European and Commonwealth shows.
I like a lot of older British cop shows and mystery shows.
No, it did not. I have never watched Yellowstone and I don’t plan on starting now.
I did like his portrayal of Anderson Devil Anse Hatfield. He did the namesakes proud in that role. The Devil part anyway as my wife uses that description among others when she is explaining life to me. /Sarc about the wife part.
I watched it a few times before. I never got what everyone seemed to love about it. Too much violence and cussing for a Christian man like me.
I probably wasn’t going to watch it any more anyway, but I have no interest at all now after what Kevin Costner said.
Well. I definitely have mixed thoughts about this. I really don’t want to do business with anyone that’s open about being leftests. And it definitely makes it easier when you have people like the singer Pink when she says she doesn’t want people that are pro life to listen to her music ever again.
I’ve often believed that leftest companies don’t want conservatives to do business with them. But here’s the problem with that, there were literally 300 companies that donated to BLM during the summer 2020 riots. It makes it impossible to not do business with a leftest company.
I don’t watch it now. So does that mean I have to start, and then post some drama about why I stopped?
Normally, I do not give a whit about the politics of entertainers, as long as they continue to be entertaining and do not use their celebrity to shove their opinions at their fans. If they do, then I avoid them and the shows/movies/etc. they are part of.
Why do we think Hollywood is so liberal? It’s because Libs never shut up and get all the media attention. There are lots of conservatives but they keep their opinions to themselves so they can keep getting work. I’m not really disappointed that Costner is a Lib, but I am really disappointed that he would publicly support a worthless rotter like Liz Cheney. I wonder how Cheney’s Republican supporters – if there are any left – are reacting to her getting an A-List liberal to endorse her.
Cheney reminds of the local politician who was running for mayor, and the local newspaper editor wrote “we can live with this guy because he’s too stupid to be corrupt.” That’s Kamala. She’s what we get when we elect somebody who slept her way to the top.
Now I know I’m gettin’ senile. I forgot which posting I was responding to when I inserted an opinion of Kamala in a thread about Liz Cheney. mea culpa. My opinion of Kamala is still real though.
I’m more surprised that Costner isn’t a Biden Boy than he supports pseudo liberal Liz Cheney. I don’t have the energy or the time to pick and choose who I patronize based upon their political views. I avoid a few places like Starbucks because they are over-rated, expensive, and stupidly liberal but the first two factors play a bigger role in why I don’t patronize their establishments than their politics. I did stop buying Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Wasn’t difficult since it’s so damn expensive and there are other brands just as good. But I still watch Netflix and listen to old Dixie Chicks music before I knew their politics. I’m too old and have very few f*cks to give to boycott leftist, commie businesses.
Okay, I’m walking that back a little…I don’t like an uber liberal handling my health. It creeps me out to think a doctor or other healthcare provider is a lunatic liberal who might do something to hurt me because of my political beliefs. Because people on the left are that insane and vindictive. I don’t like thinking someone in a restaurant or other food service venue can spit in my food because they don’t agree with my politics. It’s why I try to keep my political opinions to myself when dealing with healthcare workers or food handlers. It’s why I don’t put up political signs on my front lawn or put bumper stickers on my car.
I’ve lost all trust in the medical industry. That’s a bit scary because it’s likely at some point that I will need them. My cataract surgeon did not require that masks be worn, my dermatologist too and likewise for my dentist. But my former primary care physician does and that’s why he’s in the former camp. If a doctor spent many years in schooling and residency and has forgotten the very basics of the interaction between viruses and masks, I’m not comfortable being under his or her care.
While all my doctor offices still require masks to be worn while sitting in the waiting area whenever I get called back to the examining rooms and am alone with my doctors they all take their masks off and tell me I can take mine off. It’s like they’ll play the game in public but in private they’ll be true to the science.
That seems to be true for life these days. To keep from causing a scene and stay out of trouble when in public pay lip service to the leftist crazies but in private let common sense and reason rule.
Did this change my mind? No, but I had already decided that the most recent season was going to be my last. The reason being that last season kinda sucked. Mr. Costner did seal the deal though.
I have moved my banking from a bank that has publicly expressed their extreme displeasure with my politics. I went to a credit union that is glad I’m there. I have cancelled two credit cards whose issuers inflicted vaccination demands on their employees, have publicly ceased doing business with organizations that have political views that differ from their own and have in one case locked accounts for that same reason.
We used to go to the movies pretty much every weekend. Now, maybe twice a year. Why? Because I choose not to support people financially that very publicly express their hate for my views and lifestyle.
Do I think I’m accomplishing anything meaningful when the rubber hits the road? Of course not. But I am happy that I am doing what little I can.
Doesn’t bother me at all, I’ve assumed most actors politics don’t align with mine and I agree if I don’t watch or listen to anyone I disagree with in entertainment and music there isn’t much left. I love all the music of my youth 60’s and 70’s well if I weeded out the leftists from that I would have nothing left. JMO
