It’s no secret that I have wanted DeSantis to be president since well before he ran for a 2nd term as Florida Governor. I was wearing the sweatshirts with “DeSantis 2024” on them back in 2020. He has been an undeniably phenomenal governor, he has led Florida as a true conservative, and his policies are unquestionably right. Every conservative loved him until he had the audacity to believe he might be the best candidate to lead our country forward. I mean, how dare he, right? Doesn’t he know that Trump supporters have created a Trump monarchy whereby no one is allowed to seek the highest office except Trump?
The attacks have been endless, baseless, and stupid. Case in point, last week Trump received all kinds of praise for popping into a wedding reception at his Bedminster golf club – it was completely adorable, and I was one of the people who praised him for it. DeSantis and his wife Casey popped into a wedding reception of a state senator in IA, and now he’s being criticized for trying to upstage the bride and groom. Ridiculous.
But here’s the thing. We are now looking at choosing between two 80 year olds – one of whom is a total puppet who can’t complete a coherent sentence, and the other who is likely going to prison. And that’s not a judgment, by the way, that’s simply a prediction. I happen to think all of these indictments are partisan bullcrap, but I also think Trump has a habit of stepping on his own unit over and over again, and so even though the charges SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT, and I cannot emphasize that enough, he is also likely guilty of some of them. It’s actually possible to believe both of those things simultaneously.
Which begs the question, wouldn’t it be better for the country if our choices weren’t these two 80 year olds? Wouldn’t it be better for the country if we had a GOP candidate who wasn’t about to go to prison? Wouldn’t it be better for the country if we had a GOP candidate who wasn’t constantly calling people ridiculous names and alienating nearly everyone he’s ever worked with simply because they dare to speak against the monarchy?
Trump is NOT a king. Trump was a fantastic president in many ways until he ceded control of the country to bureaucrats like Dr. Fauci. But the fact remains, that’s exactly what he did.

You may not LIKE hearing that. But that doesn’t make it less true.
Conversly, you may actually LIKE Trump hurling juvenile attacks on his opponents and calling them ridiculous nicknames, but that doesn’t make what DeSantis says about them less true.

Trump made a lot of promises to drain the swamp. And yet, all he really did was kowtow to it. Trump is now spending his time attacking all the people HE CHOSE to surround himself with while he was president. He supported RONNA MCDANIEL, for crying out loud. And it was TRUMP POLICIES that created the ability for states to implement their mail in ballot shenanigans when Covid hit. You may not LIKE those facts, but that doesn’t make them less true.
Imagine how much better shape the GOP would be in right now if Trump had simply opted NOT to run for president in 2024. I know you might not LIKE to imagine that, but just play along for a minute. Imagine if he’d thrown his support early on behind someone like DeSantis or Ramaswamy or Scott, and how MINDNUMBINGLY EASY it’d have been for ANY of those candidates to beat Biden. Imagine how easy it’d have been for whoever he supported to speak out loudly against all these indictments, and how we could all continue to support Trump against these ridiculous legal battles, but also know that we’d be looking at a Trump-supported fighter – someone in their prime of life instead of nearing the end of it. Now, we’re faced with a likely Trump nomination, and a very likely loss in the general. I know, I know – there are polls that suggest Trump could beat Biden. I personally don’t believe them, but let’s pretend for a moment that he can. Then what? Will he deal with the crises facing our nation from prison? It’s not even clear if he can pardon himself on the federal charges, and we know he can’t on the state ones. So is this the fate America deserves? A president who’s unable to actually serve? REALLY?
The saying is true – we get the government we deserve. His most devoted following is loyal to the end, even if that end spells doom for us all.
It didn’t have to be this way. It DOESN’T have to be this way. But Trump and Biden are similar in that they are both putting their desire for control and power over what’s best for America. You may not LIKE that I’m saying that, but it doesn’t make it less true.
I’ve heard all of the arguments. Some folks say Trump is the only one who can drain the swamp. Where is the evidence of that? You may not like that I’ve asked that question, but that doesn’t make it an unimportant one. Why did Trump revoke the one EO that actually attempted some swamp draining?
It seems clearer than ever that we’ve now reached a point that no matter how effective of a leader DeSantis has proven to be, and no matter how much sense he makes, he’s been thoroughly tainted by Trump and Trump’s loyalists in a way that seems impossible to recover from. Trump and his supporters have done to DeSantis EXACTLY what they all complained was done to Trump.
I suppose there’s still lots of time, and things could change. But it’s looking more and more likely that Trump will be our nominee, and it’s looking more and more likely that he’ll be either campaigning from prison, or unable to campaign at all due to the time that has to be devoted to fighting his legal battles. What is Trump doing, by the way, in order to ensure a fair and honest election in 2024? What is his girl Ronna doing to ensure that? Anything? Or is the game plan just to futilely challenge the results of the election if Biden wins again?
For the record, if our choices on election day are between Trump and Biden, I’m voting for Trump. I’ll be doing it reluctantly and I’ll be silently cursing about it, but I’ll absolutely do it.
America deserves better than this sh*tshow. That’s all I’m saying. 🙂
If you’re mad at this post, I welcome answers to the questions I’ve posed in it.

Honestly, it’s not even about DeSantis anymore. ANY qualified, distinguished leader who wants to run will be beaten back and destroyed by the cults of personality surrounding Biden and Trump. Biden has the media on his side and Trump has an unwavering glut of followers who faint at the mention of ‘Trump’. George Washington himself could rise from the dead and try to run and still struggle against the cults of personality around the two old geezers currently leading their respective tickets.
I look for the 2024 election to be one (if not THE) weirdest, oddball events in US history after the dust settles. A brain-dead incumbent running against someone in an orange jumpsuit campaigning from a prison cell. It doesn’t get any better than that, if you’re living in a border-less, third-world country. Which we are now.
