Y’all. This is how you do it.
Thank you to @RepEricBurlison for cosponsoring my bill to eliminate the Federal Department of Education (HR 899).
— Thomas Massie (@RepThomasMassie) February 21, 2023
The bill is one sentence:
“The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2023.”
That’s how bills oughta be written. Just like that. Stand-alone, one-issue, simple bills that state the objective and result in one easy sentence.
It should be noted that this is not new. He has been proposing this legislation since forever. This interview he did with Kennedy is from SIX YEARS AGO.
Will it ever reach the floor for a vote? Would the House ever have the cajones to vote OUT an entire federal department? We can only hope. It’s not likely, but I’m at least grateful for Massie’s effort.

There are very few things more permanent than government agencies and “temporary” taxes.
This is why you never want the government to start anything cuz it will never end.
Government reducing itself? That’s unpossible!
