For those of you who regularly watch our livestream you may remember that my trip to Tucson to celebrate my mom’s 80th birthday between Christmas and NY was canceled due to the Southwest Airlines mayhem that saw thousands of people getting stranded at airports, losing luggage, and waiting days to get new bookings. I was lucky in that we found out our flight was canceled two days beforehand, but it still sucked that we couldn’t make the trip. Since my family couldn’t celebrate together physically, I had to videocall them to help present my mom with the gift that my dad, sister and I had planned for her.
For our most devoted followers – our Insiders and Supporters – Daisy and I agreed that maybe y’all might like to see that part of the video between me and the Birds and my sister. It’s a deeply personal and intimate peek into the relationship my immediate family has, and it’s a relationship I feel immeasurable amounts of gratitude for. And for those of you who will be attending the PHX Meet and Greet in April – YES – the Birds and my sister will be in attendance! 😊
WARNING: There is crying. We are an emotional bunch! And when one person loses it, the rest of us loses it. We’re domino criers.
Daisy and I frequently mention the FB Insiders Community and the Locals Supporters Community – because it’s in those communities and among those folks – that we feel most understood and known. And it’s where we feel the most safe posting the more personal sides of our lives. If you’re looking for an online home – a place where you can connect with folks who think like you and who will have your back, those are the communities for you. And of course you’ll get exclusive and more personal content from us there.
What’s the difference between the groups? Well, they’re two very different platforms. Facebook tends to be where folks “live” more often because they’re already connected to friends and family there. So that’s the advantage. The DISadvantage of the FB Insiders group is that FB is super censor-y. Every single day we get notices that FB has slapped a fact check label on one of our Insiders’ posts. Or, they’ll just take down posts altogether. And their standards are absurd.
On Locals, you can say whatever you want – it’s a true free-speech platform. The downside is that they haven’t gotten their livestreaming capabilities optimized yet (that’s in progress), and it’s just not as well known/well-used of a platform.
Many of you subscribe to both platforms, and obviously we appreciate that! You get the best of both worlds. But it’s entirely up to you where you feel more at home. If you’d like to subscribe to either/both, here are direct links (please note that when joining FB Insiders, being on a laptop versus a phone works better for some reason).
Anyway, I’m happy to share this personal little peek into my family – the people who made me who I am. ❤ It will be posted in both groups later today. I hope you enjoy it!

I know how you felt when you couldn’t get a flight because of the airport chaos. Your experience reminds me of what two Houston ladies who were on temporary duty at Chase Bank in lower Manhattan did on 9-11. My wife worked at Chase in Houston at the time and was acquainted with the two ladies whose story I now tell.
As their building next door to the Towers was collapsing around them, they managed to get out, walk all the way to and across the Brooklyn Bridge, and keep walking till they came to a car-rental agency. Knowing the airports were closed, they rented a car and drove it all the way home to Houston. That, my friends, is determination.
