So, I’m not gonna lie – I enjoy a lot of Lizzo’s music. ‘About Damn Time’ is a fantastic bop. It slaps, as my kid would strong encourage me never to say. And I know Lizzo is a gifted flutist. She’s a great song writer, she’s great at creating super catchy tunes, and I have a lot of her stuff in my library.
But, alas. I’m white. I didn’t realize that was a problem when it comes to enjoying Lizzo’s music, but apparently it is.
According to the sourcelink, Lizzo has reached the up with which she can no longer put when it comes to claims about who her music is written for. She told Vanity Fair in November that, “I am not making music for white people. I am a Black woman, I am making music from my Black experience, for me to heal myself [from] the experience we call life.”
K. Please return all the money you’ve made from white people, then.
It should be said that Lizzo is RESPONDING to critics who are ACCUSING her of making music that appeals to the melanin-challenged. And that criticism is so colossally epically stupid, that I can’t blame her for bristling at it. But to respond by ALIENATING a huge number of the people who’ve contributed to her success is totally idiotic.
Here’s what she could have said. “I’m a black woman, so I write from that perspective and from my own experience, but I’m delighted that so many people – regardless of their race – enjoy my work.”
Would that have been so hard?
But NOPE. Lizzo had to get all, “I AM NOT MAKING MUSIC FOR WHITE PEOPLE” on us. And even worse, say that she’s HURT by the suggestion.
She said, ““[It’s] very hurtful, only because I am a Black woman, and I feel like it really challenges my identity and who I am, and diminishes that, which I think is really hurtful.”
Seriously??
Lizzo admitted in her Vanity Fair interview that she grew up around super racist black and brown kids, although those were not her words and I actually think the admission was accidental. But here’s what she said about her school. “It was a Black school. Mostly Black and brown, Caribbean, I had Nigerian friends … They were all listening to what was on the radio: Usher, Destiny’s Child, Ludacris and I was into Radiohead’s ‘OK Computer.’ I kept it hidden, even when I was in a rock band, because I didn’t want to be made fun of by my peers — they’d yell, ‘White girl!”
Um, hey Lizzo? Those people who were yelling “White girl” at you were RACIST. That’s what racism looks like. You’re welcome.

So, to her, being called a “white girl” and accusing her of writing music white people like are the worst pejoratives ever? 🙄
The pathetic thing is that it won’t alienate anyone. White girls will still buy into her crap, regardless. Many of them being woke, white guilted, desperate wannabes who constantly want to prove how not racist they are. “Please, people of color, like me! Please!”
If I were Lizzo, I’d tell those who are complaining about the makeup of my audience where to go! Just like her, I attended Detroit public schools with black racist schoolmates. I got beat up by some of them because I didn’t like rap — and still don’t. I also preferred rock and oldies over rap and even caught grief about Jimi Hendrix and Motown. They’d say, “Why do you listen to that “honkey” music!”. Go ahead and laugh, others do when I tell them about it! I’d tell them, “If you don’t like rock, don’t listen to it, it leaves more for me to enjoy”. I had pictures of Tom Petty, (gee, I miss those dreamy blue eyes!) Roger Daltrey and Steve Perry hanging up in my school locker. Lizzo, focus on what’s pleasing to you with your craft and don’t be put off by slings and arrows others have aimed at you. They seem to be envious and are just lashing out.
Lizzo is just another black person that hates all white people.
The psychological chains they’ve put up around the black community are downright scary.
What is a Lizzo? Asking for a friend.
Pretty stupid alienate a lot of her fan base because of their color. Richard Pryor did a skit where he played the Reverend James L. White.
At the 7:15 minute mark he talks about getting the white folk’s money.

Someone did get the memo about “content of character”.
Liberals should be praising her for bringing “diversity and inclusion” to Black music. Opps, my bad. Diversity and inclusion is only something that white people have to do.
