Listen to this:
I tweeted in August that Republicans were privately saying their internal polling looked bad and they would likely lose seats. I went on to say Independents would break heavily for Democrats. Here is Mitch McConnell admitting everything I tweeted back in August. pic.twitter.com/JGRWbBwKVF

So – think what you want about McConnell. He’s, as Rachel so eloquently put it, a certified lizard person. But he’s not wrong about one of the problems with the midterms being about the GOP’s inability to capture independents and moderates; specifically when the candidates were considered extreme right.
And that’s a battle that the GOP has struggled with internally forever. It’s happening again, with Trump making his announcement last night, and it’s going to keep happening, which is why I think we’re destined to lose in 2024.
The people who support Trump and ONLY Trump will be the reason we likely lose, like it or not. Trump will never capture independents and moderates, and he’ll likely turn off lots of people who would otherwise vote red. So, even though I believe he’ll be the likely nominee (Daisy and I disagree on that point), I don’t think he’ll beat Biden (if in fact Biden somehow manages to stay upright in two years and runs again). Will I vote for Trump in a general against Biden? Abso-freaking-lutely. But there are not enough people like me, and there are not enough MAGA diehards to get Trump over the finish line.
On the flip side, I would happily vote for DeSantis or perhaps someone we aren’t even talking about yet if the GOP nominates someone other than Trump. The problem is that the Only-Trumpers will not. And that’s why we’re destined to lose. A candidate who isn’t Trump won’t get Trump supporters to vote for him/her. Trump won’t get independents and moderates. So we are doomed to failure either way.
I’m sorry to be so negative, but I am not seeing a way out of this. The only way forward is either for independents and conservatives who are turned off by Trump to hold their noses and vote for him (which they will not do in numbers great enough to win), or for Only-Trumpers to come to their senses and recognize that perhaps change would be a good thing. I’m not seeing either of those two scenarios coming to fruition.
Thoughts?

I’m somewhat on board with your thinking, there might be a slight chance of finding a path to victory but a lot depends on who he chooses as his running mate. I think also he needs to drop the I was cheated out of 2020 until he can let go of that we’re in big trouble it’s over, we need to figure out a way to win so we can start changing some rules to stop all the ballot harvesting, bundling, ect. I know the comment about 2020 will piss off a lot of people but we have to move on in my opinion.
His announcement effectively ends this country. The socialist/communists will be permanently in power due to no united front against them. They will continue to destroy America with their media ownership, wide open border, gender nonsense, history lies, Covid/vaccine lie and climate lie. I hope I’m wrong…
I don’t think him announcing is even a factor at this point. They had already sealed the deal with ballot harvesting/mail in ballots allowing them to secure votes from those who would not have done so otherwise. The best bet is to create safe havens in certain states and hope for the best in the long term.
100% there with you Mock. I just don’t see a way for us to win. Been saying this since he lost the election (no, I don’t believe it was “stolen” – there is no credible evidence of LARGE SCALE vote theft to believe that) – his ego won’t allow him to take the beating and just walk away.
