I just don’t get it. Like – if you have legit paperwork showing that you freaking OWN THE HOUSE, then how is it that the squatters aren’t just hauled off and arrested for breaking into a house that doesn’t belong to them? It shouldn’t matter if the owners have taken Actual Possession or not. It’s their house.
“Oh our uncle leased it to us.”
“What’s your uncle’s name?”
“We don’t know.”
Mkay.
Can a lawyer please explain this squatting phenomenon and why laws seem to be on the side of the absolute garbage people who are doing the squatting?

Squatting is easily overridden by our 2nd Amendment right to defend your person and property. /Sarc
Some states and countries like England have laws allowing squatting in certain circumstances. In most cases, at least where I live-on the beautiful eastern shores of Lake Michigan, the cops get to the house and if the person in possession shows any type of plausible right to be in the house, then they make you take it to court. Cops can get sued and lose their jobs for throwing people out of a house and it is later determined they had a right to be there. So, why would they get in the middle of it?
