D.C. Mayor Bowser: “We’re Not A Border Town. We Don’t Have An Infrastructure To Handle This.”

Today, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser made a statement that may shed light on the leftist meltdown over the relocation of illegal immigrants to so-called “sanctuary cities.” Here’s the clip.

She starts by explaining that D.C. is “not a border town.” That is correct. But it is a sanctuary city. They’ve been very vocal about that. And the voters in D.C. voted for politicians who specifically support those immigration policies. The border towns, however, did NOT vote for politicians who support these immigration policies, nor do they tout themselves as sanctuary cities. It’s easy to claim to be a sanctuary city when you don’t think that will be very much work since you aren’t a border town.

Bowser immediately goes on to explain that “we don’t have an infrastructure to handle this type of, and level of immigration to our city.” This statement comes directly after the statement that they are not a border town, which seems to indicate that the two are directly connected in her mind. It almost sounds like Bowser is insinuating that they aren’t a border town and so they don’t have the infrastructure to handle this level of immigration.

Which begs the question, does Mayor Bowser really think that border towns DO HAVE the infrastructure to deal with this level of immigration? Is that part of the issue here? Do these liberal mayors legitimately think that southern border towns are more equipped to deal with and have the infrastructure to support the millions of illegal immigrants flooding across the border?

And this begs yet another question– if D.C. is a sanctuary city, as they frequently claim and very publicly affirm, then why don’t they have the infrastructure? If they’re actively enticing illegal immigrants to their cities with promises of sanctuary, and continually electing politicians who push related immigration policies, then why don’t they have the infrastructure in place to follow through on their promises? Were their sanctuary promises just political talking points that they didn’t think anyone would ever call them on? Like I said above, it’s easy to say you’re a sanctuary city when you don’t think it will be much work since you aren’t a border town.

She then explains that they’ll be working on a “new normal” in the city in order to handle the immigrants, but ends with the statement, “We’re not Texas.” You’re clearly not. Because Texas voted to keep the border closed and secure. Texas voted to follow and enforce federal immigration law. And yet Texas has been the one picking up most of the slack for the Biden Administration entirely disregarding federal immigration law and instead enticing illegal immigration directly into Texas.

D.C. (and all it represents), on the other hand, has spend most of the last 2 years denying any border crisis and making grandiose statements in support of illegal immigration and open borders. D.C. is clearly not Texas. And Texas is tired of D.C. thinking that means they don’t have to take responsibility for the mess that they helped create. Texas is ready for D.C. to put on their big boy boots and deal with the border crisis just like Texas has been.
