FL Dem Crist’s Running Mate Is Teacher’s Union President Who Protected Predatory Teacher, Praised Castro

Charlie Crist, the Democrat candidate for Florida Governor, just announced that his running mate will be Karla Mats. Interestingly, her nickname has been “Karla Marx” due her public statement regarding Fidel Castro. It’s a weird position to take in a location to which people came to escape the squalor and depravity of communist Cuba under Castro.

Her public praise of a communist dictator isn’t all she has going for her. She’s also the President of a teacher’s union, the United Teachers of Dade, which covered up for and protected a serial sexual predator for more than a decade. It was such a huge deal that back in 2019, when the media was still occasionally publishing real journalism and not just partisan propaganda, the Miami Herald ran a piece about how it’s possible for a teacher to face “four criminal sexual assault cases and allegations of sexual misconduct made by nine female students” in his 15 years of teaching, and still be a teacher. After reviewing more than 400 pages of relevant documents, the Miami Herald said,

“Their contents raised questions about how two powerful institutions — the United Teachers of Dade (UTD) and Miami-Dade County Public Schools — dealt with 12 years of allegations against the veteran educator. While his students filed complaint after complaint against him, Nibbs rose into the teacher’s union’s inner circle. He spent eight years as a building steward and was a forceful advocate for the current UTD leadership. He campaigned with that group three years ago — while under investigation for groping a fellow teacher an allegation found to be unsubstantiated.”

Some of the hottest topics in the nation right now are school choice and protecting our children from predatory sexual behavior or indoctrination in schools. So it’s weird for a gubernatorial candidate to choose a running mate who condemns school choice while representing the establishment’s failing public education, equates concerned parents to psycho serial killer characters, and protected a sexual predator who routinely victimized children in schools over the course of more than a decade. Just such a completely tone-deaf, out-of-touch choice for a running mate.

Charlie Crist should teach a seminar on how to run a losing gubernatorial campaign, because he seems to be a professional at it.

First, spend your entire career flip-flopping so no one ever knows where you really stand and no one can trust what you say because they expect you to say something different next week and next month.

Second, alienate voters by telling them not to vote for you.

Third, alienate more voters by choosing a running mate who represents the antithesis of the demographic that tipped the scale in the last gubernatorial election.
