According to this, “frustrated” and “terrified” women want to get sterilized now because of the Roe ruling. Naturally, they’re TikTok’ing about it. Behold Olivia Downs doing that in her original post (that has since gone viral):

Apparently, Fox did a story about her which has brought all the (eeww so old) “Boomers” to the yard:
@lvdwns #greenscreen fighting for my life in thw Fox news comments was not something i thought I’d ever have to do #foxnews #childfree #gynecologist #tuballigation

Silly stupid old people with their saggy skin and life experience and whatnot. It’s, like, totally weird how they don’t video themselves 24/7. I’m pretty certain Olivia would label me a Boomer (even though I’m a proud Gen X’er) but I actually agree with her terms. I don’t think it’s abnormal for her to NOT want children; I know several women (conservative, even) that feel the same way as she does, although they don’t think kids are #eewwgross. They just don’t want to have them, and/or they’ve chosen to take on other roles in life besides mother. And, frankly, this isn’t a new phenomenon. It’s just something that women are TikTok’ing about now. She says that “all young women face pushback” for not wanting children, but I disagree. I have several young women in my inner circle that have expressed similar views, and their families and friends don’t push back at all (knowing that they are well aware of the WIDE variety of birth control out there and that they may very well change their mind(s) one day about their current feelings – life is crazy that way). One can assume that she doesn’t have a lot of people in her life who are very supportive of her, or she’s relying too much on TikTok comments to give her validation for her personal life decisions.
Side note – I also find it interesting that she’s lamenting about “being the face of revolution” when she willingly puts her life out there, every day, for the world to see. We all know when she gets her pap smears, for crying out loud:
@lvdwns So the gyno called…. #gynecologist #tuballigation #womenshealth

Horrible comments come when you put yourself out on full display. Welcome to the party, sweetheart. (Call us sometime, and we can tell you about the dudes we’ve put in prison just for being conservative chicks with opinions about stuff).
Therein lies the difference between Gen X and the Z’ers. Is there a part of their lives that ISN’T videotaped? (That was a rhetorical question – all the “boomers” know the answer already.) In all honesty, I’m waiting for the next generation to just be born with cameras attached to their hands. Evolution, amirite? And with all that me-me-me’ing, they somehow feel taken aback when the spotlight dares to question them. Remarkable, really.
As for sterilization? Well, there are a helluva lot of birth control options out there, but if she wants to get sterilized? In this case, OK – I fully support that. If you want to sterilize yourself, you go girl. Although I probably just Boomer’d myself by saying ‘you go girl.’
Olivia was one of three women who were profiled in this New York Post piece:
Dr. Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz, the author of “Menopause Bootcamp” and OB/GYN who has been practicing in Los Angeles for 26 years, said that the recent Roe decision has sent waves of women to their gynecologists inquiring about sterilization. She believes that the vast majority of young women are well aware of the lasting implications of the procedure.
“This generation is a lot more aware of their bodies, aware of their autonomy, aware of their agency.”
The doc said it, she wrote a book on menopause, and I’ve gone through that, so that’s good enough for me to accept the statement at face value. This whole conversation reminds me of another TikTok we watched in our podcast this morning:

To me, Olivia’s terms are completely acceptable. That’s the bodily autonomy right there that you’ve been screaming about – and not someone ELSE’S body. I say sterilize yourselves and hashtag live your best lives, ladies. No arguments from this conservative old hag.

I’ve long believed there are people who shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce. She’s one of them, and I salute her for making this decision for herself.
Ever since (well, even before) the Roe v Wade overturn, I’ve been saying that if a woman is REALLY SURE she never wants children, there are ways for her to ensure that. Tubal ligation, of course, is one. But you’d think we were planning to take over the world with CONSERVATIVES by encouraging liberal women to avoid having children. (That is a nice side benefit!) That’s not the grand scheme, though. We just want people to take responsibility for their own actions, including reproducing (or not), and stop making us listen to them whining forever.
After this post I’m sure the fellers are gonna be lining up outside your (revolving) door.
I know I am going to get into trouble telling this real old yoke. For future reference I have no complaints about my wife, but then out of both of us I am the one who married up.
She could just become a nun like my wife. None in the morning, none in the afternoon and none at night. /sarc /sarc /sarc/
