On Monday, German media outlets reported that police had the driver of the truck that plowed through a Berlin Christmas market in custody. They even went as far as saying that the man was a Pakistani refugee who came to Berlin in February. That part still may be true, but as it turns out, he’s not the right guy. That’s right. Authorities say they arrested the wrong man. The main suspect is still on the loose.

“We have the wrong man and therefore a new situation,” a senior police chief told Germany’s Die Welt newspaper. “The true perpetrator is still armed, at large and can cause fresh damage.”
Berlin’s police Chief Klaus Kandt even said that one of the victims of the truck attack appears to have a gunshot wound, another indication that this suspect is armed and dangerous. Authorities are now telling people to remain “particularly vigilant” and to report “suspicious movement” to a hotline.
Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere — Germany’s top security official — said Tuesday that authorities have “no doubt” that the attack was intentional.
He added that a man arrested in connection with the attack was a Pakistani man who had entered Germany on Dec. 31, 2015, and arrived in Berlin in February. De Maiziere said the man had applied for asylum and denied to police that he was involved.
The man was identified only as 23-year-old Naved B. He was picked up around 1 1/2 miles away from the scene of the attack.
He was already known for multiple minor offenses. It took authorities forever to officially identify him, because he uses multiple names. Not sketchy at all…
Here’s hoping they find this complete scumbag before he hurts anyone else.
